STORIES. SOUNDS. WORDS.

AboutContact

Hello!

I’m Laura – a London based performance storyteller and writer of mixed heriage. My work combines forms, sounds and styles to create live work for audiences of adults, children and (occasionally) both.

Stories

theatres, galleries, libraries

For adult audiences, I’ve performed with storytelling organisations including StoryJam and the Crick Crack Club. My latest show-length piece is HIDE, an interdisciplinary performance work which debuted at VAULT Festival 2023; recent work includes LEGEND OF THE BURNING BELL (British Library, galleries), and THE NEW MIRROR (Bloomsbury Festival).

For children and family audiences, I have a repertoire of stories suitable for various ages and contexts including galleries, libraries, schools and outdoor spaces.  I’ve worked with places including Rich Mix, Discover Children’s Story Centre, Hackney City Farm, Atypical Reader, Polka Theatre, Secret City Arts, and Sagapo Teatro.

ENCHANTED TALES (Templar) – the first children’s book I’ve written the words for – will be published in late 2023.

I love working with new people and organisations. I’ve taken new commissions for organisations including the Young V&A, Redbridge Libraries and Copped Hall Trust. I’m open to creative adventures of all kinds, so –

Give me a call!

Sounds

sound art, noh

In collaboration with sound artist Sinister Masterplan, I’ve produced events which combine story and experimental sound, for arts festivals and one-off performances across the UK. I’ve also made solo works that combine spoken words and sound for venues including White Conduit Projects Hundred Years Gallery, Groyne Gallery and AMP Studios.

A practitioner of noh since 2011, I perform with Theatre Nohgaku, co-produce Noh Training Project UK. and study East Asian performance and mythology at SOAS.  In 2020, I performed in new noh Between the Stones (Southbank Centre, London & EU tour), and as guest arts.

Spoken

audio, radio,

Alongside live performance, I create and contribute to audio-specific story based works; most recently Three-Crossing River, a narrative response to art works from the exhibition Yōkai, by Helen Maurer and Angela Moore.

Collaborative audio performance projects include work with Desire Lines (Threads Radio), Littoral Transmissions (Radiophrenia), composer Anna Murray, Quiet Music Ensemble and Newham Folk Archive.

Writing commissions include pieces for Musicity.space, Collage Arts,  Noh Reimagined festival and group exhibition They Came Before Us: A History of Women of Colour in the UK.
